Biggar, John Campbell
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of John (Jack) Biggar at his home on Lee Valley Rd, Espanola on October 21, 2020. He was 97.
Jack was born on May 7, 1923 in Moncton, NB, the son of Delbert & Agnes Biggar. He grew up in Lower Coverdale, outside Moncton, during the Depression and joined the Royal Canadian Navy at the onset of WWII where he saw convoy escort duty in the North Atlantic until the war’s end. After being discharged he enrolled at University of New Brunswick, graduating with a Master’s degree in Forestry in 1950. It was during his tenure at UNB that he met and married his wife Helen (nee Fletcher) The two celebrated 71 years of marriage in September. In 1951 Jack accepted a position as manager of a logging operation in Ramsey, Ontario where the couple took up residence and raised their two children John & Ruth before moving to Espanola in 1964. Jack continued his professional career with what is now Domtar until his retirement.
He was a great lover of the outdoors and spent much of his time fishing, skiing, snowshoeing and hiking. He gave his time generously to his family & friends as well as to the Boy Scouts, youth hockey, school boards, the Legion & other community organizations. He was never without project, always building something or working on the family cottage on Georgian Bay.
Surviving in addition to his wife Helen, are his son John (Carol), daughter Ruth, granddaughter Kate Ford (Guillaume), grandson Michael Ford (Jody), 2 great grandsons Huxley Ford &, Theo Ford-Campagne, 2 nieces: Mary Jane Randlett & Barbara Jean McAleer and 3 nephews: Neil Henderson, Bruce Biggar & Doug Biggar.
The family wishes to extend their thanks & gratitude to Dr. John Knox for his wonderful care and to Christina Javierto, Charity Eslit and Paulette Sokoloski for the loving and diligent care they’ve provided.
His was a full life – full of energy, integrity, caring and love for his family. He will be greatly missed.
