Obituary
It is with broken hearts we announce the passing of John Gregory MacDonald on Nov 8, 2020 in Hinton, Alberta. Greg spent his last years living in Hinton with the love of his life, Lisa Brett. With a heart rooted in Cape Breton, Greg was born and raised in New Waterford, the son of Brenda and the late Jimmy MacDonald. Greg followed in the footsteps of this father, right down to the nickname “fly” with a hammer in his hand since he was a dirty faced little boy and all you could see were those huge baby blues. Greg was an exceptional Carpenter, always calling home to tell of his latest projects. It wasn’t just his job, he was proud and loved it. Greg was well known to be handy, if he got his hands on it he could fix it. Greg was always there to extend a helping hand to those in need.
Greg could make a friend anywhere he went. He will be remembered for his big smile, infectious laugh, and genuine heart. Greg was the best story teller, if he was at a gathering you left with sore sides from laughing. Greg enjoyed a good time and loved to hear his friends play live music. He always listening to an old tune, and they all had meaning to him, he was an old soul.
Greg is survived by his daughters Merissa and Brianna (mother Dawn and step father Munchy), his mother Brenda, step father Jack, sister Brenda Lee and brother in law Corey, sister Lisa and spouse JW, nieces Haley, Jade, Claire, nephews Kaine and Xander and his special aunt Minnie, many loving uncles, aunts and cousins. Greg is also survived by his Alberta friends and family, including his loving spouse Lisa Brett and stepdaughters Kaitlyn O’Keefe and Shae-Lyn O’Keefe and Lisa’s dear mother Kathy Sloan.
Greg was predeceased by his father Jimmy, special uncle Parker, Grandparents Angus and Mary MacDonald, Grandparents Stella and Bernard Heinekamp. A Service for Greg will be announced at a later date.
