John Caven
1936-2020
John H. Caven, 83, passed away Monday, January 6, 2020 in the
Aberdeen Hospital Palliative Care Unit, New Glasgow. Born in Belfast,
Northern Ireland, UK, he was the son of the late John and Violet
(Byrne) Cavan.
John will be dearly missed by his wife of 55 years, Patricia
(Moore); sons, Gary, Kentville; Paul (Sherrie), Stellarton; and Robert
(Kim), Hammonds Plains; grandsons, Brett, Christian, Jacob, Aiden,
Liam, and Riley Caven; sister, June (Fritz) King; brothers, Eric and
Monty Caven, England; sisters-in-law, Rae (John) Montgomery, Sandra
Wallace (James), Northern Ireland; cousin, Kenneth Rea; and nieces and
nephews in England, Northern Ireland, and
Austria.
He was predeceased by sisters, Phyllis Caven, Olive Schuman,
and Alison Ruminak; and father and mother-in-law, Robert and Rachel
Moore.
John made Nova Scotia his home in 1974, where he was employed
for 18 years with Michelin Canada. Following
retirement, he worked as a human resource consultant, sharing his
expertise with businesses around the province.
John was an active adherent of First United Church, Trenton,
where he was also a member of the men’s
club.
John was an active sportsman playing cricket, field hockey,
football, and was most passionate about golf, in particular playing it
alongside his sons. In later years, he took great joy in playing
washer toss and cheering on his grandsons.
Funeral service will be held at 2 pm, Saturday, January 11,
at First United Church, 81 High St., Trenton, followed by a
celebration of life reception. Donations, if desired, may be made in
John’s memory to First United Church, Trenton, or Aberdeen
Palliative Care Society. Arrangements are under the direction of the
R.H. Porter Funeral Home, New Glasgow.
