John Carmichael 2020

It is with great sadness that the family announces his passing at Pioneer Manor in Sudbury, on Friday, December 25, 2020 at the age of 90 years. Son of the late John Henry and late Catherine Almina (née Turcotte) Carmichael. Beloved husband to Raili Carmichael (née Nyfors). Loving father to Harold (Carol-Ann), James (Susan) and Dana (Marissa). Beloved grandfather to Erica Sherritt, Colin, Caitlin, Jesse and Ashley. Cherished great-grandfather to Jonathan, Samantha, Hannah and Bentley. Predeceased by his siblings Jeannie (Toots), Joy (Charlie Lineham), Reta (Herk Flynn) and Harold. He will be sadly missed by nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. John worked more than 40 years at INCO, primarily Garson and Kirkwood mines, retiring around 1992. He was very active in sports as a young man, playing ball for teams such as the Garson Bombers/Greyhounds. He was invited to a St. Louis Cardinals tryout camp but had to decline due to having to work to help support the family. John coached a boy’s peewee softball team in 1974 that won the All-Ontario Championship. John was also an above average bowler and continued to bowl for several years after he retired. Special thank you to the many nurses and PSW’s who dealt with John for many weeks on the HSN South 5th floor. A private family funeral service will be held Tuesday, December 29, 2020 in the Cooperative Funeral Home Chapel, 222 Lasalle Blvd., Sudbury. Donations can be made by cheque or online to the O.S.P.C.A (Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) Sudbury branch.
