John’s Obituary
It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing, on Friday April 17, 2020, of a dear husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother-in-law and friend, John Barfield Simmons, in his 82 year. He valiantly struggled with various health issues over the years, but succumbed to the COVID-19 virus that he had contracted in the hospital. Lovingly remembered by his wife of 54 years June A’Dare and his children Rhonda (Bruce), Clinton (Shelley) and the late Nadine (2015). Forever remembered by his grandchildren Melissa Fairfax (Ian), Josh Krug, Justin Boylan, Chelsey Boylan, Andrew Fritsch and Jordan Fritsch and his great-granddaughters Haylen and Emery Fairfax. Much loved brother-in-law to John Isaacs and Denine Isaacs. Son of the late William John Simmons (1973) and Ruby Mae Kersey (1962). Brother of the late William Gilbert (1978). Also remembered by long-time friends Betty-Jean Boswell and Shelley MacKenzie, both held a special place in his heart.
John was retired Owner/Operator who hauled steel, travelling millions of miles, making many friends along the way. He enjoyed fishing, a good cigar and a stiff shot of Brandy! John was a Mason, a Shriner and a member of the Bison’s Alumni. Throughout the years, John shared his wisdom, advice, care and concern always willing to lend an ear. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of his life and he was very proud of all of their accomplishments.
Funeral arrangements entrusted to the DWAYNE D. BUDGELL Funeral Home. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic a private family visitation followed by cremation was held, but boy will there be a “PARTY” in the months to come, because this is what John would have wanted!! As an expression of sympathy, donations made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation (www.heartandstroke.ca/), the Diabetes Association(www.diabetes.ca/) or the Brantford Food Bank (crs-help.ca/) in John’s memory, would be appreciated by the family. We would like to extend our deepest appreciation to the Medical Staff at the Brantford General Hospital and the PSW’s from Bayshore Healthcare for all of their care and compassion at this most difficult time.
Online condolences & donations may be made at www.budgellfuneralhome.ca
