Joan Gawalko Loucks Sunday May 31st 2020

It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the passing of Joan Gawalko at the age of 75. Beloved wife and devoted mother, Joan passed away peacefully at her home with her husband Paul and children Jonathan and Kristen at her side.
The only daughter of Norvin and Helen Loucks (both predeceased). Loving sister-in-law to Mary (Ray McPharland) both predeceased, Robert “Sonny”, Bernice (Paul Field predeceased), Theresa (Bob Diver), Michael, Sylvia (Sandy Bass), Morris (Ek), and Peter. Loving aunt to many nieces and nephews and missed by many cousins.
Joan may be remembered as a special education teacher, a guidance counsellor, and a physical educator at the secondary School level. She loved to travel, golf, garden, do yoga and rhythmic gymnastics. She always enjoyed watching Peter Sellers saying “That’s not my dog!” and watching Christmas Vacation every year. Her infectious laugh was sure to uplift everyone around her.
Joan was a member of the Board of Directors of the Sudbury Kidney Foundation, Chair of Patient Services, Chair of Organ Donation Committee, Member of the Bursary Committee – Greater Ontario Branch Kidney Foundation.
Special thanks to nurses Dawn, Katie, and Julie from Bayshore, Dr. Walton and the staff at Home Care and the Hospice. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Donations in her honour to the Northern Cancer Foundation or the Maison McCulloch Hospice would be appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to the Jackson and Barnard Funeral Home.
