Joan Funk, age 65, of Sled Lake, Saskatchewan, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 22, 2020 at the Rosthern Hospital after a 3 month battle with brain cancer. She was born September 19, 1954 in Waldheim Hospital to George and Frieda Friesen.
Joan grew up in Waldheim. She was the second youngest of a family of 8.
She was married to Wes Funk on April 7, 1972. Joan and Wes were blessed with two sons, Trevor and Clinton. They lived in Laird, SK for most of their married life. In October 2010 they moved up to Sled Lake, SK.
In 1982 she started work as a cook (dietary aid) in the Rosthern Hospital. She retired in 2009 at age 55 after 27 years of service.
She is survived by her loving husband Wes; her sons Trevor (Debbie) Funk and Clinton (Larissa) Funk; her grandchildren, Randee (Vaughn) Coleman, Alexandra (Joel) Siemens, Nadia Funk, Garrett Funk; her great-granddaughter Grace Coleman; her sister Anne Dougherty; and her brothers John (Carol) Friesen, Fred (Barb) Friesen, Bob (Kathy) Friesen; and sister-in-law Darlene Friesen.
She is predeceased by her parents George & Frieda Friesen; her sister Marianne Lightburn; and two of her brothers Carl Friesen and Jim Friesen.
She was loved by her family and will be dearly missed.
A Private Funeral Service for immediate family and invited friends will take place at Laird Mennonite Church and interment held at Laird Cemetery. Both services will be officiated by Pastor Bruce Jantzen. Memorial Donations can be made to the Sask Valley Hospital Foundation Inc. Box 93 Rosthern, SK S0K 3R0.
