Joan Betty Pagan Thursday August 20th 2020

It is with profound sadness that we announce Joan Pagan (Csatari) passed away peacefully, surrounded by her husband and children on Aug 20, 2020 age 79 years. Joan is survived by husband Bud and daughters Gay, Leann and Dana (Gareth). Grandmother to Andraea (Alex), Signe (Aaron), Julia (Dipesh), Alana, Tayler and Connor. Great grandmother to Kolby, Finley, Remi, Greysen and Kira. Joan was predeceased by her parents Bill and Tillie Csatari, her siblings Louise (Hector), Pat (Garnet) and Bill, in-laws Frank and Margaret Pagan, Bill and D’arcy and Joann Lunan. She is survived by her sister-in-law’s Dawna and Nora, brother-in-law Terry (Brenda) and numerous nieces and nephews.
Joan grew up in the North end of Winnipeg and met Barry (Bud) at an exciting evening of bingo in 1959. They married a year later and celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this past February, at their home in St Vital, where they have lived for over 50 years.
Family was most important, she was a deeply dedicated, doting matriarch who was enthusiastically involved in her grandchildren and great grandchildren’s lives. Joan would rarely miss a school, sport or extracurricular event in support of her brood.
Joans energy went beyond family. She spent several decades volunteering for the Girl Guides, Glenwood school (PTA) and for Glenwood Community Centre. In more recent years she volunteered at Dalnavert Museum and the St Vital Historical Society. When in her 60’s, Joan trained for and taught seniors Aerobics classes around the community. She studied French and Spanish and enrolled in University Psychology courses. Joan had a variety of hobbies and interests she was passionate about, including reading, sewing, board games, and dancing. She was well known for being the first person on the dance floor and loved to laugh, but could never properly tell a joke.
Joan had a long career at the Winnipeg Tribune and The Winnipeg Free Press before retiring in 2000. It was during her working life that she established many, lifelong friendships combining a discipline for physical health and wellness as she was regularly spotted walking home from work, year-round.
Joan and Bud loved to travel and family camping trips were a favourite. When the kids were young, they would pack up the tent or trailer and head off to many different destinations across Canada and the US. The family was well known around the campsite for their lovingly made matching T-shirts.
Later they travelled extensively throughout Europe, the Caribbean, Australia, Fiji and Mexico.
Due to ongoing COVD19 restrictions there will not be a general service in Joans memory. In lieu of flowers, a donation to Cancer Care Manitoba or the PalliativeManitoba would be appreciated.
The family would like to express their Special thanks to Cancer Care Manitoba, the Palliative care program and MAiD for the extraordinary compassion and care they provide during the last months of Joans life.
