Joan A. MacLeod, aged 82, of Baddeck and formerly Sydney Mines passed away Wednesday, January 15, 2020, at Cedarstone Advanced Care in Truro.
Born in Sydney Mines, on July 27, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Roderick and Marguerite (Jardine) MacCuish.
She graduated from Glace Bay General Hospital as a Registered Nurse in 1957. She worked as a nurse in Sydney Mines, Toronto and Baddeck.
She was predeceased by her husband of 57 years Rev. Ian MacLeod in 2017.
Together they served Presbyterian congregations in Elmsdale, Hardwood Lands, Dean, Baddeck, St. Ann’s, and Sydney Mines. She was an avid volunteer with the Victoria County Housing Authority, the Baddeck Rural High School Library and various church organizations.
Joan is survived by her sons Grant (Elaine) MacLeod, Fall River and Roddie (Theresa) MacLeod, Truro, sister Merle MacCuish, Sydney Mines, and sisters-in-law Christine MacCuish, North Sydney and Mildred MacLeod, Windsor. She was the beloved Nana of Carrie MacLeod, Halifax, and Natasha and Elena MacLeod, Fall River.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brother Roderick MacCuish and sister Audrey Selfridge.
We would also like to thank the staff of MacGillivray, Alderwood and Cedarstone Nursing Homes for their excellent care of Mom these past 2 years.
There will be no visitation. A funeral service to celebrate the life of Joan MacLeod will be held on Monday, January 20, 2020, at 2 pm in Knox Presbyterian Church, Baddeck, with Reverend Brian MacLeod officiating. A reception will take place at the church following the service.
