Jerry Lazurko Thursday June 25th 2020

Jerry Lazurko (95 years young) grew up on a farm in Jedburgh, Saskatchewan. In 1943 at age 18, he joined the RCAF as an aero engine mechanic. He spent time overseas in the war – in Torbay, NFLD. After discharge, he went to the University of Saskatoon, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering – the first in his family to attend university. Jerry met his beloved wife Fay while in school, and they married in November, 1950. Fay remained the love of his life.
Jerry had a lifelong thirst for knowledge, always wanting to know how things worked. In 1990, he retired – finishing his career as the Chief Electrical Engineer for the Province of Ontario. However, after retirement, he worked part time teaching a course on Mine Hoisting for Cambrian College. Fay would help him correct the tests!
Jerry played baseball, hockey, and volleyball in Yorkton, and for years enjoyed travelling, the camp at Manitoulin Island, golfing and curling. He cheered for the Saskatchewan Roughriders and the Toronto Blue Jays. He loved debating politics, sports, and world events with family and friends.
Most of all, Jerry loved his wife Fay, his three children, and his grandchildren. He was thrilled to hold his first great-granddaughter Alice this year, and was very touched that she carries Fay’s name. David and Diane provided support over the years that enabled Jerry and Fay to remain in their own home. Jerry enjoyed his many visits with Shirley and Rob, and son Robert. He was very proud of everything his children accomplished.
Jerry loved any opportunity to chat with the grandchildren – Dylan (Catherine), Jordan (Allison), Steven, Angele (Matthew), Ariel, Rachel, and Becky. He also enjoyed long phone chats with his brother George and sister Olga, still residing in Yorkton.
