Jerry Dempsey
1952-2020
DEMPSEY GERALD, “Jerry”, passed away at the Saint John
Regional Hospital on Wednesday, January 29th, 2020, after a brief but
courageous battle with cancer. He was the son of the late Joseph
Guitard and Marion Dempsey. Jerry leaves behind his partner of
twenty-six years, Brenda Garrish, and his daughters Jennifer and
Vanessa Crossley of Ontario, and their children Chloe and Eli. Left
behind are also his brothers; Holten, Phillip, and Alistair, his
sisters Velda Hodgeman, Pauline Dempsey, Delina Dempsey, Frances
Hickman, Wendy Graham and Jeannie Terranova. He is predeceased by
sisters; Bernadine Furlotte and Donnadeen Dempsey. Jerry maintained a
very special bond with his many nieces and nephews.
Jerry was born in Montreal and lived in Ontario for many years
prior to making his home here in St Stephen. He was well known for his
musical ability and travelled all over the county performing at small
bars, family and friends’ gatherings, and at various Blue Grass
Festivals. He worked at the Bayside Port as a Stevedore, was a
grounds keeper on Ministers Island, but perhaps was most well known
for the various stores he opened in St Stephen selling antiques/ used
good.
At Jerry’s request there will be no viewing, and friends
and family are welcome to attend a Celebration of his Life to be held
on Saturday, February 8th, 2020 from 2:00 pm … 4:00 pm at
Humphreys Funeral Home, 20 Marks Street, St. Stephen, NB E3L 2B2 (506
