Jerome Francis Gover
May 11, 1944 – December 11, 2020
The family of the late Jerome Francis Gover are saddened to announce the passing of a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. Jerome passed away peacefully at the Chancellor Park Long Term Care Facility in St. John’s at the age of 76 on December 11, 2020.
Jerome was predeceased by his son, Christopher, and his parents John (Jack) and Mary.
To share warm memories of his life, he leaves behind his wife, Rosemary (Thistle); his children: Douglas (Patti Rogers) Labrador City, NL, Annette (Rod Wetmore) Fredericton, NB, Paul (Tracey Murray) Bay Roberts, NL and Catherine (Fraser Duthie) French Lake, NB; brothers: John (Donna Goobie) St. John’s, NL and Wayne, Edmonton, AB; sisters: Geraldine (William Sinnott) St. John’s, NL, Doreen (Patrick Walsh) Mount Pearl, NL, Andrea (Damian Leonard), Dartmouth, NS, Mary (Eric Paquette) Ottawa, ON, and Sheila Timmons, ON; grandchildren: Tristan, Maggie, Tara, Ryan, Jaysen, Gabriel and Oliver; and a large circle of family and friends.
Jerome was born and raised in St. John’s, NL and moved to Labrador City in 1967 to work with QNS&L, and later, the Iron Company of Canada, where he and Rosemary raised a loving family, created many happy memories and made many dear friends along the way.
He enjoyed his retirement visiting grandchildren and family, travelling to a few corners of the world and working on his beloved project – building a log cabin.
Jerome was heavily involved in the life of the community of Labrador West. Many amazing memories were created through his involved with the Knights of Columbus, Labrador City Minor Hockey, the Labrador City Recreation Commission and the Labrador City Teen Centre. A boy scout at heart coupled with a strong belief in helping youth, Jerome was involved with Boy Scouts Canada for many years.
A special thanks to the Dr. Leon and the nurses who cared for Jerome at the Labrador Health Centre and to Dr. Shea and the staff at Chancellor Park for his continued care; your kind care and compassion will always be remembered.
Due to COVID-19 a private celebration of life for family will take place at Caul’s Funeral Home on Sunday, December 13 at 1:30 pm. A Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Basilica, Labrador City on Thursday, December 15, 2020 at 2 pm.
We take comfort in knowing that he is now reunited with his son Christopher, whom he loved dearly.
As an expression of sympathy, donations can be made to the Bliss Murphy Cancer Centre or the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada.
