Jeanne Stanford Hill
1931-2020
Jeanne Stanford Hill (Harris) – age 88, of Wolfville, NS
passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 2, 2020 at the Valley
Regional Hospital in Kentville, NS. Jeanne was born in Halifax, the
daughter of the late J. Arthur and Ethel (Stanford) Harris of
Dartmouth. Jeanne attended grammar school in Dartmouth and later
attended Edgehill School for Girls in Windsor. She was a graduate of
the Victoria General Hospital School of Nursing, working in Toronto
before moving west to Edmonton, Alberta. She worked for the City of
Edmonton as public health nurse and after raising her family Jeanne
returned to work as a nurse at the Edmonton General Hospital where she
worked in palliative care. This had a profound effect on her views on
the dignity of dying. Jeanne met John D. Hill, a fellow maritimer in
Edmonton and they were married in 1960. Jeanne was very compassionate
and caring and volunteered for several community organizations. These
included Meals on Wheels, UNICEF, the Salvation Army and the YWCA.
Jeanne was also a board member of Robertson-Wesley United Church in
Edmonton and later served on the board of Victoria Hall in Halifax.
John and Jeanne loved their life in Edmonton where they hiked, sailed,
and biked the river valley with their friends and family. Jeanne was a
loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend and will be
sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. She is survived by
daughter, Heather Hill (Michael Townsend) of Wolfville; sons Iain Hill
of Toronto, ON, David Hill Harris of Vancouver, BC and her special
grandchildren Callum Oxley-Hill, Alexandra Townsend, JW Townsend,
Trevor Townsend; sister Nita Ellis of Summerside, PEI; nephews,
Robert, Gordon and David (Janet). Jeanne was predeceased by beloved
husband, John D. Hill and brother-in-law, John K. Ellis. Cremation has
taken place and there will be no visitation by request. A
celebration of Jeanne’s life will take place in summer.
Donations in her memory can be made to Hope for Wildlife. Funeral
aarrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and
Cremation Services, Kentville.
