Jean Montgomery April 24th 2020

It is with so much love tinged with sadness that our strong and remarkable mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away at the age of 96 years young.
Jean was predeceased by her loving husband, Jack Verge Montgomery, in 2007. She leaves behind and will be lovingly remembered by her three daughters: Gail (Mike), Lynn (Dan), Joy (Mike); her two devoted sons Grant and Glen; Grandchildren Doran and Susan, Everett (Stephanie), Warren (Maria), Ashleen (Lance) and Rhiannon (James); Great grandchildren Eric, Jack, Mikko, Sadie and Lili; Nieces Dana and Doreen, Louise (Tom) – their children and grandchildren; and a great tribe of US nieces, nephews and their families with whom Jean spent many fun-filled Thanksgivings, parties and reunions and always enjoyed these occasions.
The youngest of five children, Jean Winifred Glaister was born in 1923 on a farm in Landis, Saskatchewan, to hardworking parents. When first born, she was not expected to live. She sure proved the doctor wrong! After attending business school in Saskatoon, during the war she worked in Washington, DC, for the British Scientific Mission, Rockets Division. After the war ended, Jean moved to Vancouver where she met Jack and then spent many happy years and two stints in Kemano, BC; three years in New Zealand. In 1985, they farewelled Kemano and retired to Gibsons, Sechelt Peninsula, before eventually moving to the Fraser Valley where they enjoyed being much closer to family and friends for lots of great visits. Jean happily resided at Langley Gardens since 2012.
Jean loved to laugh and to dance and always had a sparkling wit and a wicked sense of humour and common sense. She always said she’d had a good life and her greatest joy was her family; she was kind and fair. She would not want us to be sad about her passing but just remember all the love and laughs we shared.
A thousand words won’t bring you back,
We know because we have tried;
Neither will a thousand tears,
We know because we have cried.
A massive celebration of life party will be held at a later date to be advised.
Online donations may be made to the BC Children’s Hospital Foundation, JeanUp to get ill children out of their hospital gowns and back into their jeans. Go to JeanUp.ca and be sure to tick the box to dedicate your gift in memory of Jean Montgomery. And be sure to wear denim every May!
