Jean Mary Colwell
February 21, 1930 – January 29, 2020
Jean Mary Colwell of Woodstock, New Brunswick February 21, 1930 – January 29, 2020 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jean Mary Colwell, beloved wife of the late Frank (Bud) Nelson Colwell on January 29, 2020.
She was 89. Born in Evesham, England on February 21, 1930, she immigrated with her family to Canada when she was only 18 months old. Jean was the daughter of the late Albert Chambers and the late Nellie (nee Gregory) Chambers.
Besides, her parents and her husband, Bud, Jean was predeceased by her brother, Greville Chambers, sister-in-law Avis Chambers, sister Kathleen Coy and brother-in-law William (Willie) Coy and infant great grandson, Carter Barber
Jean is survived by her son, Greg Colwell and his wife, Jackie, and her daughter Debby as well as grandchildren, Lindsay Everett (Ryan), Jeffrey Matthews (Jenn), Jennifer Colwell (Chad), and Jaime Gordon (Jeff) and great-grandchildren, Isaak, Aleah and Elijah Everett and Paige and Keean Matthews and Brody and Jesse Barber and Addison Gordon, and numerous nieces and nephews.
In her younger days, Jean was a wonderful golfer winning many championships and even accomplished a hole-in-one. The distinctive “hitch” in her swing will be remembered by all who had the pleasure of golfing with her. She, along with Bud, were honorary members of the Woodstock Golf Club.
She was devoted to her family and loved a good game of bridge or 45’s with their many, many friends. She was known for “the best brown bread, beans and macaroni ’n cheese scallop in the land.” Jean’s “spirit of gentleness” will remain in the hearts of all who knew her and especially in the hearts of her family.
Donations in her memory, if you wish, can be to St. James United Church of Canada (Sunday School Fund), or the Carleton County Animal Shelter because of her lifelong love of dogs or the Extra Mural Program because of the phenomenal care and compassion that they gave not only to Jean, but her family as well.
A Graveside Memorial Service will be held in May at the Woodstock Rural Cemetery with day and time to be announced.
