Obituary of Janet Mary Shirley Parry
Janet Mary Shirley Smith Parry
August 4th – The Parry/Quilliam family are very sad to announce the death of our darling family matriarch ‘Ginn’, to complications from a heart attack she suffered on Tuesday July 28th. Ginn was born in London in 1931 to Cardiologist Kenneth Shirley Smith and his wife Alice Shirley Smith (nee Hoogewerf). She is survived by her younger brother British artist Richard Shirley Smith and sister Juliet Hellings (nee Shirley Smith). Ginn was an Occupational Therapist by training specializing in geriatrics and worked in Montreal and the Laurentians in Quebec, and later in Ottawa helping people regain function after strokes, heart attacks and accidents. She mothered David, Steven and Marion Parry with the late McGill Geography Professor John T. Parry in Montreal. Moving to Ottawa in the 90s, she lived a busy life as an inventor of medical equipment, an ardent political activist for health reform and member of the Ottawa Oxford and Cambridge society among other organizations. Condolences can be sent through the Pilon Family Funeral home in Arnprior’s website and donations in memory of Janet are being accepted by the family for the Ottawa Wild Bird Sanctuary, one of Ginn’s special causes where she frequently volunteered. The Parry/ Quilliam families will be having a celebration of Janet ‘Ginn’ Parry’s life when health and safety concerns are over.

Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Janet
