Obituary for
James Walters
Walters, Jr., James (Jim) – age 87, Truro, Nova Scotia, died on Sunday, November 1st, 2020 in Colchester East Hants Health Centre in Truro, embraced by love.
Jim is survived by his wife, Jennifer; sons from his former marriage, William, David (Kim), Richard, and Scott (Nancy); four grandchildren, Ryan, Blake, Jared, and Jacob; several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family.
Jim was predeceased by his parents, James and Doris (Simmons) Walters; sisters, Doris, June, and Phyllis; grandson, Justin; and former spouse, Carolyn.
Born in Everett, Massachusetts, Jim served in the U.S. Air Force as B-29 aircraft ground and air crew with Hurricane Hunters weather reconnaissance out of Bermuda. He then proudly spent his life’s career with Polaroid Corporation in Massachusetts, beginning in the plumbing trades. Over the years, he served as head of security, site fire chief, and many senior management positions, before retiring in 1995. Jim was a Mason, and a member of the Sampson Air Force Base Veteran’s Association.
In 2001, Jim married the love of his life, and made Nova Scotia his home. He enjoyed many hobbies, and over the years he and Jennifer traveled throughout Canada and the U.S., visiting family along the way. They shared a quiet but fulfilling life, always knowing time is precious.
There are no words to describe our gratitude and appreciation for everyone who made our bittersweet journey easier to bear. A special thank you to the V.O.N. nurses who tended to Jim and guided Jennifer through his care, our family physician and palliative care team, EHS paramedics, staff and caregivers with Earth Angels, and to Pearl & Art for their friendship and prayers. Finally, thank you to Cory, Colchester Community Funeral Home, for his caring and compassionate guidance through a difficult time. You are all amazing and a true testament to your profession. Your friendship, support, kindness, and compassion will always be remembered.
A celebration for Jim will be held at a later date. In his memory, donations may be made to the Canadian Lung Association.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro. Online condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.ColchesterCommunity.com.
