Obituary of James Elliot Stocking
Stocking, James
Suddenly at Four Counties Health Services on April 15, 2020, James Elliott Stocking (Jim) in his 64th year passed unexpectantly after a brief struggle with cancer. Jim is survived by his mother Lois Stocking of Newbury, sister Ruth Carmichael (Dougal) of West Lorne, twin brother Gerald Stocking (Alice) of Bothwell, brother Mark Stocking (Sharon) of Wardsville, brother Gary Stocking (Kim) of Tobermory, sister Susan Smith (Brad) of Ridgetown, sister Catherine Brown (Ken) of Lucknow. Also survived by his “special” Aunt Margaret, and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father Kenneth (1999), nephew Jonathan Carmichael (2016), and great niece Mekena Carmichael (2011).
As a young man Jim served in the Royal Canadian Navy followed by several years in the construction industry. He then began to work with his brother in law Dougal at Carmichael Meats where he continued to work for the last 28 years of his life. He enjoyed working in sales, as well as carpentry, cabinet making, puttering in the garden, spending time on the golf course, and with friends at the West Lorne Legion.
A private family service was held at Denning’s in Rodney on April 16th with Rev. Deb Dolbear-VanBilsen officiating. Cremation will take place and a celebration of Jim’s life will be held when conditions allow. A special thanks to the healthcare workers at FCHS Newbury, and LHSC London for their care and dedication. Expressions of sympathy can be made in the form of a donation payble by cheque to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 221 West Lorne where Jim was a long-time member. Arrangements entrusted to Denning’s of Rodney. Share a condolence at www.westelginfuneralhome.com
