James Moe Morgan November 25 1935 June 9 2020

In Loving Memory Of
James “Moe” Morgan
James Leonard “Moe” Morgan, W.O. (Ret.) MMM, CD, long-time resident of Grande Prairie, AB, passed away peacefully at the QEII Hospital in Grande Prairie on Tuesday, June 9, 2020, at the age of 84 years.
Jim was born in Charlottetown, PEI, on November 25, 1935 to parents Harry and Bertha Morgan (nee Lawlor).
At the age of 18, James left Prince Edward Island to start his well-decorated military career, covering 15 postings across Canada until 1983 when he retired at the rank of Warrant Officer. While posted to the DEW Line in the Northwest Territories, Grande Prairie became home for Moe (a name given to him during his military service) and his family.
Not wishing to leave the military roots far behind and the service of others, he began working at The Royal Canadian Legion Branch #54, and soon became the manager for the next 20 years, before retiring in 2002. Not one for being idle, he returned to the Legion as manager for another 15 years, retiring one last time in 2018. Moe was considered by many as the “face” of the Legion, and championed many events and projects including the annual Poppy Fund campaign to recognize and honour Remembrance Day and the many Veterans, and currently serving members of the Canadian Armed Forces. Moe was always involved in the maintenance and upkeep of the D-Coy Armouries for a number of years. Through this, he was an avid supporter of the 577 Grande Prairie Air Cadets, and the 2850 Grande Prairie Army Cadets.
Growing up, Moe was a sports enthusiast, playing many different sports including tennis, baseball, and hockey. The passion for sports continued through his military career, playing hockey for many Forces’ leagues at the postings he was stationed to and attending local baseball games. Moe was an avid reader and enjoyed his daily newspapers and books on many subjects. He never lost his “Islander” roots, returning many times over the years to Charlottetown to visit his family and enjoy ‘Old Home Week’, and attend the Gold Cup & Saucer horse race. Moe had a passion for horse racing, especially harness racing, and enjoyed spending a Saturday watching the ponies at various tracks across the country.
Moe leaves to mourn his passing: his sons Brad Pack and Jim Morgan; grandchildren: Ryan and Britney Pack, and Sydney and Paige Morgan; their mothers Rhonda Pack and Colleen Morgan; sisters Marie Savidant, and Ann Morgan; brother Cliff “Kip” (Marilyn) Morgan; niece Cheryl-Anne (Robert) Cole; and nephew Jeff Morgan; also included and missing Moe are Cathy (Denis) Guerin, and their daughters Chelsea, Morgan, and son Chase; Vickie and Scott Sheppard, and their sons Mitchell and Riley Sheppard from his marriage to Alice Morgan (nee Friedel).
Moe was predeceased by his parents Harry and Bertha Morgan; his first wife Norma Jean “Jody” Phillips (nee Menard); sons Brett Pack and Herbie Hodgson; as well as siblings: Frank, Marge, Victor, and Vernon.
Thank you to the staff and management at Lakeview Seniors Housing in Clairmont, Moe sincerely enjoyed his residency there. A special thank you is also extended to the healthcare professionals in the Intensive Care Unit at the QEII Hospital for the exceptional care provided to Moe. There are no words to truly express appreciation for the compassion and attention provided, especially while working under enhanced safety measures and protocols.
A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date to be held at The Royal Canadian Legion Branch #54 – Grande Prairie once it is safe for large public gatherings.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Royal Canadian Legion Branch #54 (9912 101 Ave., Grande Prairie, AB, T8V 0X8), or to a charity of one’s choice.
