James Lorne Fargey.
Retired Locomotive Engineer with CNR and VIA Rail.
Peacefully entered into rest Friday February 14, 2020, in his 94th year. The son of the late Kenneth and Hatty Jean (Watson). Loving husband to the late Olive Helen (nee Smith) for 62 years. Survived by his sister Corrine. Lorne was the loving father of Peter (Lynne), Gail Longhurst (Robert), Stephen (Magee), and predeceased by his son David. He was the incredible Papa to David (Megan), Jason (Chantelle), Alexis (Andrew), Liam (Kate), Olivia (Cory). Papa to his 4 great grandchildren Damon, Jase, Maddison and Abel, predeceased by his grandson Walker.
A loving and devoted husband for 62 years, Lorne decided Valentines Day was the appropriate time to finally be reunited with the love of his life, Olive. Lorne was an avid fisherman and enjoyed the outdoors, camping, snowmobiling, cross country skiing and traveling Canada coast to coast several times. Lorne was a talented woodworker and wood carver with many awards for his bird carvings.
Lorne’s long life included 44 years as a locomotive engineer with Canadian National Railway and retiring with VIA Rail. He had a quiet passion for his job and was proud and dedicated to his craft. He often spoke about his days with the steam engines and was a professional at his career, passing along the whistle and the bell to his sons Peter and Stephen.
Lorne has made his final trip, rang the bell and blown the whistle one last time. We are sure he will have many great fishing stories to share with all his fishing buddies who have gone before him, and he will have the chance to now rest and watch the sunsets once again with Olive.
Lorne is predeceased by his brothers Max, Robert and sister Vera. In keeping with Lorne’s wishes, cremation has taken place under the care of QUINTE CREMATION AND BURIAL SERVICES, 205 N Front St Unit #2, Belleville (613-962-7900). A private family service will take place at a later date.
Donations of sympathy can be made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada or Quinte Humane Society.
