James Hubic 2020

James’ Obituary
The family of the late James Hubic announce his passing with his family by his side at the Canora Hospital, Canora, SK, on December 9, 2020, at the age of 41 years.
James was born on February 22, 1979, in Regina, SK, the chosen son of Brian and Joy (Watland) Hubic. He grew up and completed third grade in Carrot River, SK. In the summer of 1989, he moved with his family to the farm northeast of Norquay, SK. He completed his schooling at the Norquay school.
James enjoyed the usual childhood activities of softball, hockey, swimming, curling, and Sunday school.
Moving to the farm was perfect for James. The farm was where he had the opportunity to learn how to drive – starting with the riding lawn mower and the 830 Case tractor, later moving on to his motorbike, snow machine, and an old Plymouth Valiant that his grandfather left behind. Well travelled were the pasture and fields, where he flew up and down the hills, scaring the animals and his passengers.
He studied very hard for his firearm safety course and passing it started his passion for hunting and guns, which lasted right up to him getting his elk this fall. He also hunted with a bow. He enjoyed nothing better than taking his boys out hunting, from beavers in the spring, to big game in the fall. Another passion of his was fishing, commencing with camping trips to Townsend Lake with his Grandma Alice and Grandpa Russel. James has passed on the love of fishing to many of his boys.
Over the years, he worked at many jobs from working in oil, livestock, construction, and meat processing industries. Of them all, his favorite was farming. He loved the farm and the farm life, from raising his 4-H heifer to working the land, especially combining. It upset him that hunting and combining coincided with one another.
James had so many friends. He had a knack of meeting and talking to everyone. He often enjoyed sitting around the campfire, sharing tall tales of hunting, fishing, processing, and preparing the meat from the hunt.
He met his soulmate, Jenn, who was the love of his life. They did everything together from fishing, camping, hunting, combining, and owning their meat processing shop. Together, for the past two years, they went through all his intense illness and treatment procedures. Regrettably, his kidney disease and complications were too numerous to overcome.
James is predeceased by three of his grandparents, Russel Hubic, Reynold Watland, and Lillian Watland; and his two uncles, Ken Kidd and Ken Schick.
He will be lovingly remembered by his parents, Brian and Joy Hubic; his wife of 16 years, Jennifer Bass; his five sons, Ethan, Jacob, Landon, Casen, and Bray; his two step-sons, Wesley and Brendan Bass; his sister, Roxanne Shaw; his grandmother, Alice Hubic; his uncle, Brian Watland; his three aunts, Elaine Schick, Elaine Kidd, and Velda (Ken) Dahlin; and his niece, Avery Shaw; as well as numerous cousins and friends.
A Public Visitation will be held from 6:00-9:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 16, 2020, from the Chapel of Leson’s Funeral Home, Canora, SK. A Private Family Service will be celebrated on Thursday, December 17, 2020, with Tricia Challoner officiating. Cremation will follow the service with the Interment to take place at a later date.
