James Davie Hannaford Saturday April 18th 2020

James Davie Hannaford, 94, passed away peacefully in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, on Saturday, April 18, 2020.
Born in 1925, he was the son of Harold J. Hannaford of Montreal and Marjorie Davie Hannaford of Quebec City. His grandfather was George Davie of Davie Shipbuilding in Levis, Quebec.
James is survived by his wife Barbara Hannaford; his two daughters, Lisa Hannaford-Stacey and Jill Hannaford; two step-daughters and a step-son, Heather Brick, Jayne Howatson and Alex Howatson; his four grandchildren, Taylor and Sara Glass, Oliver and Susanna Beaudin and two step-grandchildren, Michael and Sarah Brick.
James served ten years in the Royal Canadian Armoured Corps, Reserve Force and retired as a Major with the 17th Hussars. James was in the brokerage business in Montreal, New York and Toronto.
Upon his retirement, Jim and Barbara moved to Lunenburg, Nova Scotia where he served on the Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital Board for five years, and as a member, acted as Treasurer for both the Lunenburg Yacht Club and the Lunenburg Art Gallery. Lunenburg had a special place in his heart.
He was loved by all and will be missed by all that were in his life.
The family would like to thank Dr. Jenkins and the staff and volunteers of the Veteran’s Unit of the Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital for their wonderful care of Jim during this last year.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation may be made to Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital or the Veteran’s Unit of Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg.
Burial will take place at a later date in Montreal.
Arrangements entrusted to the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Hwy #3, Lunenburg.
