Passed peacefully away on April 11th, 2020, James Burt, husband of 68 years to Hilda (Randell). Son of William and Keziah Burt, father to Garry (deceased; Margie) and Judy (David, deceased); brother to Clyde (Beanie, both deceased), Nina (Rob, both deceased), and Cassie (Fabian); loving grandfather to Kelly (Joel), Lisa (Doug), Karen (Chris) and Kim (Trevor); proud great-grandfather of Leah, Lochlyn, Mason, Hannah, Kinsley, Anna, Ella and James, along with many special nephews, nieces, dear in-laws and great friends.
Born and raised in beautiful Rose Blanche, Newfoundland. Jim was always a hard-working individual. One stormy day while working at the General Store, he was sent down to the wharf to welcome Rose Blanche’s new school teacher. Her name was Hilda, and she became the love of his life. Over the years, there has always been some ‘discussion’ about who first left Rose Blanche, and ‘who followed who’ to St. John’s – but the result was a lifelong love reflected in their marriage of 68 years. There wasn’t much Mom and Dad didn’t do together – this included making the best bread and tea biscuits around.
Jim worked for 25 years with the Waterford Hospital. Following that, he went on to become a carpenter, and helped to build a number of homes and businesses around St. John’s and Mount Pearl. He was a lover of Newfoundland stories, but nothing beat a good game of cards. Jim and Hilda spent countless special nights with family and friends enjoying a game and good company. In earlier years, they enjoyed special times in Glace Bay and Heart’s Delight – and in later years, they spent wonderful winters in Florida at the South Pasedena Mobile Home Park.
We are so grateful to the very special people that took care of Dad in his final months, especially the amazing caring staff at Glenbrook Lodge, who care equally and wonderfully for every resident everyday, and continue to care for Mom. We simply don’t know how you have enough time or arms! You are the true heroes, especially in times such as this, and will be remembered always. Thank you♥.
Cremation has taken place. In keeping with Jim’s wishes, a celebration of his life will occur later. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the charity of your choice in his memory.
