Obituary of Jacob “Jake” Klaassen
Jacob “Jake” Klaassen passed away from pneumonia at the Lloydminster Hospital, Lloydminster, Saskatchewan on March 31, 2020 at the age of 91 years.
Jake was born on the family farm near Eigenheim Church, Rosthern SK in 1928, on what became peppernut-making day.
Jake married Eva (Harder) in 1956, and taught high school in towns across Saskatchewan, including La Ronge, Prince Albert, Hague and Fortune, Newfoundland. In 1982 he went back to school as a prelude to his second career as a pastor in the Mennonite Church, later serving congregations in Hague, Fiske and Eyebrow SK. Jake liked reading history and gardening. In retirement he volunteered with the Mennonite Central Committee in St. Catharines ON and the Mennonite Heritage Museum in Rosthern SK.
Jake is survived by: his children, Brian (Joan) Klaassen, Audrey (David) Carlson and James (Tonja) Gunvaldsen Klaassen; 7 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; thirteen siblings and their families; and by Eva Klaassen.
Jake was predeceased by: his sisters, Anita and Marie; and brother, Henry;
Thank you to all Jake’s caregivers over the last few years of his life.
A memorial service in memory of Jake will be held at a later date.
