J Roger Arseneau 1934 2019

Obituary for
J. Roger Arseneau
Arseneau, Joseph Roger – 85, Truro, passed away on Tuesday, December 31, 2019 after a long illness. Roger was born in Petit-Rocher, N.B. in 1934 to the late Henri and Marguerite (LeJeune), the ninth of thirteen children. Trained as a draftsman with a life-long passion for art, Roger moved to Amherst to work for Enheat and A. V. Roe Aerospace in 1953. In 1965, Roger became a teacher, first at the vocational school in Springhill and then in Truro where he passed on his knowledge of and passion for art, drawing and drafting to students for another 29 years, retiring in 1994. It was in Amherst that he met the love of his life, Eleanor (Cormier). The two were married in 1956 at St. Charles Catholic Church in Amherst and went on to have five children. Roger and Eleanor would spend the next 63 years sharing love and laughter with their ever-growing family. Roger’s sense of humour was both legendary and infectious. His family, friends, students and anyone fortunate enough to encounter him would almost always hear at least a little joke and witness the delightful twinkle in his eye when they laughed. Roger was also an avid fisherman and woodworker leaving a legacy of hand turned clocks adorning walls across the country – enduring monuments to his talent and generosity for loved ones. Roger was also a very active volunteer across the community with the Church, in both Truro and Amherst including serving on the Parish Council, as a lay-reader and a lay-distributor of the Eucharist, with the Vocational Teachers Association, and with the Parent-Teacher Association at Douglas Street School. Roger is survived by his wife, Eleanor; their children, Norma-Jean Carroll (Gordon), David (Terry), Lynn Watt (Sandy), Peter (Trish) and Glenn (Jill); their grandchildren, Jamie, Melanie, Ashley, Kayla, Josh and Adam as well as five great grandchildren; his sister, Jeanette and his brothers, Gerald and Edmund. In addition to his parents, Roger was pre-deceased by his sisters, Yvonne, Patricia and an infant as well as his brothers, Adrian, Leo, Gus, Leandor, Raymond and Fernand. A funeral mass will be held in the Immaculate Conception Church, 669 Prince St., Truro on Monday, January 6th at 11am with a reception to follow in Campbell Hall. Interment at a later date in Robie Street Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Roger’s memory may be made to Parkinson Canada, the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or a charity of your choice.
