J. Robert “Bob” Duxbury
1934-2020
I am saddened to announce the peaceful
passing of J. Robert “Bob”
Duxbury, 85, on Friday, January 31, 2020. Born June 18,
1934 in Amherst at the Duxbury home on Albion St., he was son of the
late J. Raymond and Marcie (LeBlanc) Duxbury and Baby brother to the
late Lorraine Duxbury.
He had a career as a painter with Albert
Rayworth and later Summit Construction (Jack Wood). He had a great
passion for the Amherst Fire Department, he joined in 1961 and retired
as Captain on the Hook and Ladder Company in 1996. He loved to read,
dance and enjoyed all music. He played basketball, darts,
bowled, and followed curling. He enjoyed many trips to Germany,
Ireland, Switzerland, Austria, Alaska, Yukon, and Hawaii, the Rose
Bowl in California, also, several bus trips to Branson, across Canada
and USA.
He is survived by his loving wife and
best friend Alice Mae (MacPherson), who would have been married 62
years on February 15. They met at Fenwick Maples and
danced “Across Texas”.
Besides his parents and sister, he was
predeceased by his father and mother-in-law, Mary and Ted MacPherson,
who loved him like their own son, sister-in-law Meri and nieces, Laura
Elvie and Gwen.
Alice would like to thank Dr. Sharif,
Dr. Samad, and Trish Melborne, Moncton Hospital, Dr. K. Bienkowski,
Tracy, Blood Clinic Nurses, and ER at the Amherst Hospital, VON, and
Lawton’s Pharmacy. She would also like to thank
for the visits and company of his many friends, Allan, Rhonda, best
girl Jana, coffee girls, Peg and Debbie, Breakfast buddies, Anita,
Austin, Carol and Dave, Moncton delight with Duane and Miriam, the
support of Sr. Teresa and so many dear friends.
Arrangements are under the care and
direction of Jones Family Funeral
Centre, 70 Church St., Amherst,
NS (902-667-8777). Alice will receive visitors on Tuesday,
February 4, 2020 from 2-4 p.m. Burial will take place in the Amherst
Cemetery in the Spring. In Lieu of flowers, donations can be
made to Canadian Blood Services at 1-888-2 Donate (1-888-236-6283) or
the charity of your choice. Sharing of memories and condolences may be
