Ivy Joan McKay
June 30, 1937 – November 30, 2020
It is with great sadness that the family of Ivy Joan McKay of Bedell, NB, announce her passing at the Upper River Valley Regional Hospital in Waterville, NB, on November 30th, 2020. Born in Hamilton, ON, in 1937, she was the daughter of the late Howard and Ivy (Genaway) Connell.
Ivy was a long-time member of the Woodstock congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses. She enjoyed collecting owls, long drives in the country, watching the raccoons play in the yard and on the patio, very special time with her family, and attending meetings (later virtually) with her spiritual brothers and sisters in her congregation. Always smiling and quick with a joke, she was instantly liked by everyone who met her, and will be missed by all. She endured to the end.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Justus McKay of Bedell, NB, her daughter and son-in-law Susan and Chris Legacy, her son Chris McKay of Dieppe, grandsons Shawn and Shea of Woodstock, NB, granddaughters Kylia and Elizabeth of Fredericton, NB, and her sister Evangeline Leslie of New Minas, NS. In addition to her parents, Ivy was pre-deceased by her eldest son Rick, and her brother Allen Connell.
In accordance with Ivy and her family’s wishes, there will be no funeral or memorial service held for her passing. Cremation services will be handled by Culberson Funeral Home in Woodstock, NB. The family would like to express a very deep and sincere gratitude to doctors Marco and Koldas for their exceptional care, and also the extramural staff, LPNs, RNs, and the student nurses from NBCC, who showed a great depth of love, caring and empathy, and who truly demonstrated how patient care should be done. Ivy laughed and joked with them throughout her care and loved them for their kindness. Together, they made a heartfelt effort to make Ivy’s last days the best they could be, and the family will always be grateful to them.
For those who wish to make a memorial donation in memory of Ivy Joan McKay the following has been suggested by the family. The Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society of Canada (disaster relief) P.O. Box 4100, Georgetown, Ontario L7G4Y4 and would be appreciated.
