Ita Streiman Friday April 17 2020

In her 94th yearBeloved wife of the late Allan (Abram)z”l. Revered Mother of Fred (Randi), Esther (Irwin) and the late Mark z”l. Adored Bubbie of Miriam (Neil), Rebecca, and Alanna Streiman, Jeremy (Lauren) Blustein, and Ashley (Ilan) Mints. Much loved Ultah Bubbie of Hana and Miles Streiman Epstein, Harper and Jaxon Blustein, and Kobi and Liam Mints. Dear sister of Abe (Ella z”l) Rutman, and Salek (Miriam) Rutman of Montreal. Wonderful Aunt to Rosette Abrams, Howard and Morrie Rutman and Sarah Kohn. One of the dwindling pool of Holocaust survivor giants. Born and raised in Radom Poland, her inner and outer beauty saved her from the despised Nazilocusts. A virtual lottery wining job in a SS Kitchen allowed her to supplement not only her diet but those around her. Gambling her own life she smuggled food to others via the false bottom of food pails. She fleetingly saw her father one last time at the Waffenfabrick slave labourcamp when she spied him from the SS Kitchen window. With the end of the Nazi pestilence and her large extended family massacred she at least had most of her nuclear family. She soon emigrated to Canada with her mother and two brothers. She started her Canadian rebirth in London, Ontario. Introduced to her Beshert Abram Issac Rosenzweig/Streiman they married in 1950. Her life began a new in Windsor, followed by her joyous time at the farm in Amherstburg, Ontario before finally moving to Toronto in 1957. While Abram worked long and frenetically Ita almost singlehandedly raised her 3 children. 5 grandchildren solidified the family’s future. “Bubby” wasno casual role for her. She played a central role in all of their lives. But twin threads of joy and sorrow filled her life. She watched her family grow and then suffered the unendurable loss of her golden child Mark Motelin 1991. Abram died in 2014, but Ita was showered by Hashem with the ecstasy of 6 great grandchildren.
Ita was royalty at home and at her Shul the Beth Radom. Her life and personality were a contradiction. Both charitable and tough she was the family disciplinarian. She was both principled and realistic and learned tobend in the face of life’s storms. Sharing Abram’s innocent vanity her appearance was important to her to the very end. She evolved in time to become a gentle angel to those she encountered. Her life was extended notonly by the elation of her great grandchildren’s first steps but by the tireless care she received from her caregiver Juliette Molina. For 13 years she was at Ita’s side both at home and in Florida. All who knew Ita, were aware of the crucial sacrifices Esther made to protect Ita especially in her later years. In a plague filled world, those left behind are struggling withan emasculated Shiva. She deserved so so much more. But Ita was much greater than adversity. She was a noble Wife, Mother, Bubbie, Ultah Bubbie and Jew. A Family Service will be held on Monday April 20, 2020.
Donations in Ita’s memory can be made to The Beth Radom Synagogue, office@bethradom.com.
May Her Memory Be a Blessing. Baruch Dayan Emet.
