It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our friend, aunt, sister, mother, grandmother, and hero, Isabella Howat. Bella passed away after a courageous battle with cancer, at home surrounded by her family.
Bella was born in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, and moved with her family as a child to Vancouver, B.C. There she established a reputation as a fierce protector of her family and friends, and for being tough as nails. A few years after her son Nathan was born, they moved together to Edmonton, AB, where she lived and worked for many years, and was a constant volunteer in the community. She spent some time living in Calgary for work, then returned to Edmonton when her grandchildren, Natalia and Nathaniel were born. As was her way, Bella returned to B.C. to take care of her mother and brother when their health failed. In her last years Bella lived in Aldergrove, B.C. where she was a pillar in the community, and dedicated volunteer running the breakfast club at Shortreed School.
Anybody lucky enough to know Bella knew that she was incredibly loyal to her friends, and there was nothing she would not do for her family. She believed in working hard, loving hard, and always doing the right thing. Her passionate love for Christmas will never be forgotten, and her kindness and giving to children was constant.
Bella was predeceased by her parents Tommy and Wilma, her nephew Lyle, and brothers Walter and Jimmy. She is remembered by many friends, nephews, nieces, and will be lovingly missed by her brother Barry, and her sisters Flo, Lola, and Lorna. Bella leaves behind her two beautiful grandchildren, Natalia and Nathaniel, her daughter-in-law, Agnieszka, and her son Nathan, who was the love of her life. She was completely fulfilled by him.
Her family would like to thank the Fraser Home Health Service Nurses, and Wiebe & Jeske.
In lieu of flowers, those who are able can make a donation on Bella’s behalf to the Acts of Kindness program, or the Terry Fox Foundation. Also please consider planting something in your garden in memory of Bella.
