Obituary
Irene Marion Steppan was born on April 8, 1925 in Lintlaw, SK; a daughter to Edward and Alvina (nee Schutte) Clemetson. Irene grew up on the farm and attended school in Rockford. As a young woman Irene worked in Kelvington for families looking after their children. In 1947 she began working in the Preeceville Hotel. Irene married Leonard Steppan on July 27, 1949. They lived on a farm at Okla until 1951 after which they purchased her Grandpa Henry and Grandma Amanda Schutte’s farm. They farmed together and Len worked in the bush in the winter while Irene did the chores. In 1986 they purchased a new home which was very exciting for Irene because it was the first time she had running water. The farm is 106 years old. Leonard passed away in 2009 and Irene continued to live on the farm until 2018 when she moved into long term care in Preeceville until her passing.
Irene was a wonderful cook and baker – everyone loved her pies! She also loved knitting, crocheting and needlepoint. She made many mitts, socks and things for everyone. She loved company and feeding everyone.
They raised two daughters Darlene (Keith) and they have one daughter Michelle; Marilyn (Bjarni) and their sons Morley and Sheldon. Irene has three grandchildren: Michelle (Dave), Morley (Amanda), Sheldon (Tara). She has seven great grandchildren: Rachelle (Tyler) Mikayla, Kolby, Kourtney, Addysen, Natalie and Madison and one great-great-grandson Karter. As well as Mervin’s children: Terry (Wayne), Bev (Lorne) and Larry (Connie).
Irene is predeceased by her husband, Leonard, parents and Mervin and his wife Agnes Palagian. She leaves to mourn her family, one “little sister” sister-in-law, Rose Steppan and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends as well as her best friend, the cat named Tigger.
A memorial service will take place at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the Preeceville Long-term Care Auxiliary as gifts of remembrance.
