Obituary of Ione Anderson
We are saddened to announce the death of Shirley “Ione” Anderson on February 14th ,2020. Ione passed away at home. Born October 23, 1932 to Sherman (Sherry) and Muriel Bedwin in New Glasgow.
Her early years were spent living in New Glasgow and Amherst. Moving to Halifax and attended Queen Elizabeth High School. Following High School, secretarial training prepared her for her working life, which was centered in the insurance industry prior to her marriage. Ione married the love of her life, Chalmers Anderson, in 1952. Together, she and Chal raised their family of three sons, Doug, Steve, Greg and, their daughter, Sherri. As a couple, Chal & Ione enjoyed many years in the sport of curling. Eventually, as the family grew older, Ione returned to the work force, this time, in the medical field at the IWK Children’s Hospital. She retired in 1990 after 12 years of service. Following their retirement, Chal & Ione relocated to Stewiacke. The cottage at Toney River and traveling took up their retirement years. In her spare time Ione enjoyed doing needlepoint, cross stitch, Knitting, bowling, reading and playing cards. Her computer was a great plaything for her as well. She was formerly an active member of The Willow Bend Seniors’ Club in Stewiacke. She was a member of St. Andrew’s United Church, also in Stewiacke. Ione is survived by her husband, Chal, her sons, Doug (Heather Wills), Steve (Bernice Pyke), both of Halifax; Greg (Loretta Trelenberg), Edmonton AB.; daughter, Sherri Hughes (Bill Christman), Maple Bay, BC.; five granddaughters, Tracey, Kari and Kassandra Anderson, Lisa (Mark) Cloran, Alisha Anderson; three grandsons, Christopher and Corey Hughes, Anthony Anderson. She is also survived by one great-granddaughter, Taylor Marie Cloran and several cousins.
Cremation has taken place, under the care of J. Albert Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., there will be no formal visitation or funeral at Ione’s request.
Thanks to all the wonderful staff at Mellville Heights Retirement Home for their love and kindness in looking after Ione. Special thank you to Dr. Cherie Collicott, whose love and kindness, in caring for Ione, meant the world to her family.
