Hilda Simms 1929 2020

Obituary of Hilda Simms
January 2, 1929 – November 9, 2020
Hilda Marian Simms (Dawe), a resident of Happy Valley – Goose Bay since 1958 passed peacefully away on November 9, 2020. Hilda was born in Ireland Bight, the third daughter to Walter and Maria (Reid) Dawe.
She is predeceased by her husband Kenneth, her daughter Patsy and her son in law Curtis.
She is also predeceased by her brother George (Janet) Dawe, sisters Bessie (Charles) Budgell and Dulcie (Raymond) Burry.
She is fondly remembered by her granddaughter Jennifer (Dagan) Kelly, great grandchildren Adam and Ashlyn and her sister Ethel Grier. To her nieces and nephews she was the “aunt who came to visit.”
She was a faithful follower of St. Andrews Anglican Church and the church community. In 2012 she was awarded the Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee medal for outstanding commitment to the community over the years.
The family would like to thank the staff of Labrador Grenfell Health Long Term Care Facility for their care and compassion during her time there. To Dr. Law for her wise counsel and also to Rev. Nellie Thomas who guided her on her spiritual journey.
In lieu of flowers a fitting tribute to her memory would be a donation to the St. Andrews Anglican Church as her virtues were rooted in faith, hope and charity.
Funeral service to take place Thursday November 12th @ 2PM
As per Covid-19 protocol this will be invitation only.
“And the night shall be filled with music,
And the cares, that infest the day,
Shall fold their tents like the Arabs,
And as silently steal away.”

Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Hilda
