Henry “Miff”‘s Obituary
O’CONNELL, Henry Irvin “Miff” – age 98, Veteran’s Place, Yarmouth, formerly of Little River Harbour, Yarmouth Co., passed away on Thursday, June 25, 2020 in Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born May 20, 1922 on Stoney Island, he was a son of the late Henry Irvin and Gertrude Iona (Ross) O’Connell. Miff was a fisherman all of his working life and he still enjoyed knitting bait bags well into his nineties. He, along with three of his siblings, answered the call to serve their country during the second World War. Miff served on the front lines with the Royal Canadian Dragoons and he was also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 155 Wedgeport. He is survived by sons, John (Rita), Richard (Ada), Franklyn (Elaine), Lauren (Debbie), Irvin (Andra), Brian, (Nancy), Randy (Amy); daughters, Marsha (late Roger), Sheila (Greg), Sharon (Gary) and Violet (Tim), as well as by many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Aside from his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Hazel E. (Fitzgerald) O’Connell as well as by brothers, Minard and Victor “Buss”; sisters, Violet and Cavel; grandchildren, Jonie and Darryl. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home and Crematorium, Yarmouth and a service will take place at a later date.
