Obituary
It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Helene Beryl (Thurston) Young which occurred at Bobby’s Hospice on Sunday, April 19th, 2020. Born 1937, in Sanford, NS, she was the daughter of the late James Donald and Florence (Perry) Thurston. Helene worked as a school teacher for 35 years, finishing her teaching career at Champlain Heights School. She was an active member of Forest Hills Baptist Church, IODE and a retired member of the Teacher’s Association.
Helene is survived by her loving and devoted husband Gordon of 59 years; son James Maughan (Heather) of Rothesay; sister Marjorie Landers of Sanford, NS; grandchildren Melissa Maughan and Carter Maughan (Heather); great grandchildren Madison, Ava and Elijah; as well as several nieces, nephews and friends. Besides her parents, Helene was predeceased by her son John, sister Gertrude and brother Donald.
Arrangements are under the direction of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424). A Private Funeral Service will take place at a later date followed by an interment at Fernhill Cemetery. Donations in memory of Helene may be made to Bobby’s Hospice, Canadian Cancer Society or IODE.
