Obituary of Helena Klassen
Helena Klassen (nee Dyck), aged 89 years, of Grunthal, MB., formerly of Pansy, MB., passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 19, 2020, at Menno Home for the Aged, Grunthal, MB.
Left to grieve her passing are her children: Richard (Johanna), Garry (Barb), Doreen (Andre), Robert (Connie); 13 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, one sister, three brothers and their wives, one brother-in-law and one son-in-law.
Helena was predeceased by her husband, Martin J. Klassen and one daughter, Dolores Friesen.
Mom and Dad were married on October 29, 1948, in Altona, MB. Mom was baptized in the Sommerfeld Church in 1948.
Mom worked at Eatons for a few years after they were married, then they moved to southern Manitoba where Dad worked for farmers in the area.
In 1950, Richard was born, in 1955, Garry came along, and in 1959, Dolores was born. By this time, they had moved to Winnipeg.
In 1961, Mom and Dad bought the family farm from Grandma and Grandpa Dyck in Pansy, Manitoba.
In 1963, Robert was born, and in 1965, Doreen was adopted into our family.
Mom was a fantastic cook and baker. Anyone who has ever ate at our house would agree.
Mom rededicated her life to Christ in 1967, at a Billy Graham Crusade, and a few weeks later led Garry to the Lord. Her faith grew stronger with each passing year and it showed in all she did. She was a tremendous prayer warrior for our family, and will be greatly missed.
You have run the race, it’s time to reap your rewards Mom.
We want to say a huge thank you to the staff at the Menno Home in Grunthal for their excellent care and compassion that was shown to Mom. It will never be forgotten
The funeral service will be held on Sunday, January 26, 2020, at 1:00 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB., with viewing prior to the service.
Interment will be held at New Bothwell Sommerfeld Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Menno Home Foundation Box 280; Grunthal, MB R0A 0R0.
