McDonald (Dauphinee), Helen Theresa Elizabeth (88) – We are sad to announce the death of our beloved mother on Saturday, March 28, 2020. Mom was born on December 16, 1931, the daughter of Stanley Stuart and Ethel Emma (Giles) Dauphinee. A true Haligonian, Mom grew up on Beech and Kline Streets and attended Oxford School and St. Pat’s. She and Dad met on a blind date and married in June, 1956. They shared a love of sports and worked together for many years at Dad’s bookkeeping business. Mom was an avid bridge player and an aficionado of the daily crossword puzzle and cryptoquote. She was proud of her lifelong friendships and was also thankful for the wonderful friends she met at Heatherwood Court, her home for the past 18 years. Mom was the last surviving member of her family. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Thomas Francis McDonald, in 2000. Mom is survived by her children – Carol (Paul Farquharson), Tom (Kathy), Ann, (all of Dartmouth) and Robert (Manuela) (Germany), and by her grandchildren (Craig, Sarah, Carli, Michael, Michael L, Matt, Catheryn, Jack, Emma, and Steven), five great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. We are thankful for the kindness shown to Mom over the past several weeks, and to the caring NSHA staff in Unit 4.1 (Julie), and in the Palliative Care Unit (Monica and Bronwen) during Mom’s final hours. Due to the current restrictions, a funeral service will be held at a later date. In recognition of the wonderful healthcare Mom received, we would appreciate any donations be made to the Dartmouth General Hospital Foundation.
