It is with deep sadness that we announce the loss of our mother, sister, great-grandmother, and friend. Hazel Helen Matheson passed away peacefully on December 5, 2020 at the age of 83.
Hazel was predeceased by her husband Don Matheson and parents Leona and Charles Deets. Hazel was from a family of nine children whom were her sisters Rita, Dorothy, Opal, Edna and Ada; and her brothers Aaron, Harold and Elmer.
Left to cherish her memory are her three sons Dave, Darryl and Bryan; grandchildren Pam (Jason) Turner, Jason (Jennifer) Matheson , Julie (Ian) Goeres, Bella Matheson and Justin Matheson; five great-grandchildren; as well as her brother Aaron William and her sister Dorothy Grace.
Hazel will be remembered for her utmost strength and independence, greatly demonstrated following the loss of her soulmate (Don) at a very young age.
Family meant everything to Hazel. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought great joy to her life and always held a special place in her heart, as she did in theirs. Hazel loved watching curling or hosting family suppers which were often followed by a game of cribbage or thirty-one, in which she was hard to beat. Hazel will always be remembered for her warm smile, welcoming heart and constant concern for others. Although we will greatly miss her, we will forever cherish the memories created, the daily phone calls with family and friends near and far and the love that she has brought to our lives.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions a Celebration of Life will be planned and held in the new year of 2021.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Hazel Helen Matheson December 5th 2020..
