Dallon, Harold Vernon (Akela)
It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Harold Vernon Dallon, which occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Sunday, August 9, 2020, following a brief illness at home.
Born in Gardiners Creek, NB on May 8, 1925, he was the son of the late James and Hattie (Daley) Dallon. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Myrtle E. (Hopey) Dallon; siblings Kenneth, Robert, Cecil, Bertram, Roy, Thelma and Lois.
Harold was actively involved with Scouting for over 50 years, as Akela of the 2nd Lakewood Cub Pack and District Commissioner of the Fundy Coast District. Harold was also a Past Chancellor Commander of the Knights of Pythias NB Lodge No. 1 of which he was a member for over 50 years. He was a member of the Church of Christ the King (St. James Anglican Church, Lakewood) where his youngest son, Eric, was the first baby to be baptized.
He is survived his sons Hal and Eric of Saint John; brother-in-law Leslie Hopey (Carol) of Saint John; sister-in-law Mary Hopey of Miramichi; sister-in-law Carol Dallon of Gardiners Creek; several cousins, nieces, nephews, and long-time friends.
His love was a source of inspiration, guidance and courage for anyone who knew him and he will be sadly missed by all.
Arrangements are under the care of Fundy Funeral Home (646-2424). A private family interment will take place in Ocean View Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, remembrances in memory of Harold may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
