The family of Harold Eldon Townsend, beloved husband of Virgina Townsend of the Preeceville District, sadly announce his passing on Tuesday, February 11, 2020.
A Graveside Service at Poplar Grove Cemetery and Celebration of Harold’s life at the Townsend Family Farm will be held at a later date.
Memorial doantions in memory of Harold may be made to the Poplar Grove Cemetery Fund as gifts of remembrance.
The cremation and funeral care have been entrusted to Preeceville Funeral Home.
Harold was born August 3, 1939 to Norman and Elizabeth (nee Ferguson) Townsend in Nokomis, SK. He attended Robinson Creek school. At the age of 16 he went to work in Lynn Lake at the mine. Worked for the next 44 years as a miner, masonary work, road construction, and forestry. In July 1960 he married Virginia Hammerstrom and settled north west of Preeceville on the Townsend family farm where they raised their 4 children – Myrna, Warren, Lyle and Wendy. Retiring at the age of 60 he enjoyed life on the farm by gardening, fishing, reading, playing cards, and taking evening drives.
Harold was predeceased by his parents Norman and Elizabeth, sister Phyllis Holte, brothers Doug Townsend and Clair Townsend. He is survived by wife Virginia; 4 children, Myrna Smith, Warren (Pam), Lyle (Ronalda), Wendy Lebo (Rod); 6 grandchildren, Ryan (Jenna), Tommy-Lee (April), Tyrel (Katherine), Jordon Smith, Shandy Lebo (Braeden) and Maxine Lebo; great grandchildren Hudson, Reid, Scarlett, and sister in law Phyllis Townsend and numerous nieces, nephews, in laws and many friends.
