Latta, H. Irene – Pugwash / Malagash. It is with overwhelming sadness that we announce the passing of our wife and mother, Irene Latta at the age of 80 years. She passed away at home with her loving family by her side after a brief battle with cancer. She was born in Wallace Bay on October 20, 1939 to the late Kristian and Ellen (Dill) Larsen. She spent her early years working for Paturels and then the Bank of Nova Scotia, both in Pugwash. On September 9, 1972 she married Calvin Latta and moved to Malagash. Together they raised two daughters who she was so proud of. She was a devoted wife and mother who always put her family first. Irene grew up in the fellowship of the Pugwash Junction Gospel Hall. In her married years she was an active adherent of the Wallace River Baptist Church. Irene leaves behind her loving husband of almost 48 years, Calvin Latta. Her two daughters and their husbands, Lisa and Shawn Brunt of Amherst and Rebecca and Shawn Johnson of Oxford. Four beautiful grandchildren whom she loved dearly, Leah and Hannah Brunt and Paige and Chase Johnson. Her dear sister Hazel (Lloyd) Cain of Halifax and her brothers Darrell (Cora) Larsen of Sylvester and Kris (Holly) Larsen of Wallace. Brother’s-in-law Weldon Latta and John MacKenzie and sister–in-law Ola Ross. Her two very special boys Brody and Zachary Langille; many nieces, nephews and cousins as well as many family members in Norway. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her special aunt Lorraine Weatherbee and her niece Tanya Larsen. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, August 25, 2020, at Miner’s Cemetery, Malagash. Those attending are asked to follow Covid-19 restrictions by social distancing. Please bring an umbrella for shade and a chair. Donations in memory may be made to the Spring Street Academy Relay for Life B.K. Believer’s Team or the charity of one’s choice. The family would like to especially thank Martha Ferguson and the Cumberland Palliative Care Team, the Cumberland VON, Joanne Cottrill, Shelley Blair, Kate Wilson, June Thurber and Betty Warrell for all the care and support they provided during Irene’s illness.
