Of Mount Uniacke, passed away peacefully on May 19, 2020 in the QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax. Born January 4, 1929, in South Rawdon, he grew up in East Uniacke. Gyde was a son of the late Dorris and Lula (Moore) Lynch. He was employed as a driver in the MT section for the Department of National Defense for 35 years. In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and going to the old camp with his brothers. After he retired, he and Beulah took a three month camping trip across Canada. He also enjoyed camping with family and friends, being in the woods, reading, doing the cryptoquote and crossword puzzles, and playing crib. He was a member of Saint Paul’s United Church, Mount Uniacke, where he served as a life elder, and served on the Board of Trustees and as Chairperson on the building committee when the church was built. He spent many hours helping to build the church. Gyde faithfully looked after the Union Church Cemetery for many years. Gyde was a dedicated member of the Uniacke Masonic Lodge 128 where he helped serve many breakfasts and received a meritorious award. He was also a member of the Amethyst Chapter 28 OES.
Gyde is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Beulah (Graham); son, Shawn (Karla) of Upper Rawdon; and daughter-in-law, Sandra Morash, East Lawrencetown; grandchildren, Melissa (Doug) Roe, Andrew Reid and Brittany (Jesse) Mason (Poppy’s special angel and buddy); great-grandsons, Seth, Zach, Cole Mason, And Lucas Roe; sisters, Verna (Frank) Fast, Toronto, Ont.; Maxine (Robert) Ross, Windsor; and Shirley Wiebe, Edmonton, Alta.; brothers, Victor, East Uniacke; Sherman (Frances), Upper Clemontsport; Carman (Jackie) and Lester (Theresa), East Uniacke; sister-in-law, Thelma, Halifax; and brother-in-law, Derrick Morrison, Quispamsis; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by daughter, Lori; stepson, Bruce Morash; sisters, Rheta Lawrence, Lillian (Dolly) Van der Mark, Olive (Polly) Levy and Irene Morrison; brothers, Lloyd, Charlie and Jamie.
Cremation has taken place. After COVID-19 restrictions are lifted and it is safe to gather, a funeral service, Masonic service and interment will be help. Arrangements have been entrusted to T. K. Barnard Funeral Home. No flowers by Gyde’s request. Donations in his memory may be given to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, IWK Health Foundation, Saint Paul’s United Church Memorial Fund, or Uniacke Masonic Lodge 128. Special thanks to the wonderful staff of Unit 6.2 of the QEII Health Sciences Centre for making his final days comfortable.
