Gordon Stewart Mitchell Mar 9 1937 Jul 1 2020

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gordon Stewart Mitchell on July 1, 2020 at VGH, age 83. Gordon passed away peacefully, thanks to the exceptional care of the team on unit 11A – ACE. Gordon leaves behind his beloved wife of 60 years, Linda, as well as his children Cheryl (Rick) and Barry (Glenda), his grandchildren Melissa (Dantae), Zach (Aiza) and Allison (Brent), and his great-grandchildren Ryan & Hazel.
Gordon, an only child, was born in Regina, Saskatchewan. He moved to Vancouver with his parents Arthur & Jessie Mitchell when he was nine years old. One of his earliest memories was being caught by the general manager jumping off the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club (RVYC) dock when he was 12 years old. He was sent home with an application for membership. He became an honorary life member and loved to socialize with friends at ‘the club’ until the end.
Gordon loved people and was involved with many community organizations, including the CNIB and the Jaycees. He worked as a banker with CIBC until he retired, and then went on to organize and advise his children on their finances! Most of all Gordon loved to spend time with wife, whether it was summer vacations with their kids, trips to Nevada and cruises in later years, or playing bridge and relaxing with friends.
An Eight Bells Club Service will be held at the RVYC when appropriate.
