Gordon Steeves 19582020

M. Gordon Steeves
1958-2020
M. Gordon Steeves, 62, of Hopewell Hill, passed away
on March 8th, 2020 at the Moncton Hospital
surrounded by his family, after a lengthy battle with
cancer.
Gordie was born in Moncton on February
14th, 1958 the son of Michael
“Stan” Steeves of Lower cape and the late
Carol (Davis) Steeves.
He was self employed in the Forestry industry and enjoyed
working in the woods. He loved the farm life and especially
having his team of draft horses. He had several teams over
the years but always liked his Black Percherons. He has made many
lifetime friendships in all the Atlantic provinces through Horse
Hauling.
He was a fixture at the Albert County Exhibition and always
took his horses and won many trophies. He enjoyed camping
with his family and made many memories by the campfires,
with PEI being a special place they loved to
go. Gordie didn’t like to show his emotions or his soft side
that was until his granddaughters arrived. They could get
him to do anything, he was definitely wrapped around their
finger. Summer and Cydney were his pride
and joy. He was very proud of the girls new endeavour and
was one of their best customers in the ice cream stand the girls
started over the summer. He will be remembered for
his great sense of humour, his teasing and tormenting and his big grin
when he was up to something. Gordie has left us
for a time but would want everyone to reminisce and share a laugh or a
funny story and not be sad as he is now at peace and by his mother’s
side. ” To be in the hearts of those we love is never
to die”
He will be deeply missed by his wife and best
friend, Donna ; his boys, Jeff and Greg (Amanda) all of Hopewell Hill;
his treasured granddaughters, Summer and Cydney; his father,
Michael “Stan” Steeves of Lower Cape; sister,
Shari Sorensen (Jack) of Hillsborough;
brothers, Mark Steeves of Lower Cape and Craig
Steeves of St. Andrews; Mother-in-law,
Ethel Butland of Riverside-Albert. He will
also be missed by several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and
nephews and by all his in-laws and extended family and many
friends.
He was predeceased by his mother,
Carol Steeves and father-in-law,
Carl Butland.
He will be resting at the Albert County Funeral Home with
visitation on Tuesday evening from 7-9pm. The funeral
service will be in the Hopewell Hill Baptist Church on Wednesday,
March 11th, 2020 at 2:00pm with Pastor
Paul Steeves officiatingand Rev. Gordon James
assisiting. Interment will be in the Hopewell Cemetery, Hopewell Hill
in the spring.
For those who wish donations to the Canadian Cancer Society
or to the charity of the donor’s choice would be greatly
appreciated.
The family would like to say a special thank you to the
staff of Extra Mural, Eric and Stacey Lockhart ,
Teresa O’Hara, Trevor and Tammy Sealy and
Pastor Paul Steeves for being there and for all the help over the past
two years. All of your care and thoughtfulness will never be
forgotten and is and was greatly appreciated more than words can
say.
