Gordon Russell Moore CD
1930-2020
Gordon Russell Moore CD – age 90, of Kentville,
passed away on Sunday, April 5, 2020 at Camp Hill Veteran’s
Memorial Building QEII, Halifax. Born in Guelph, ON he was
the youngest son of the late Joseph and Lillie (Adamson) Moore. Gordon
proudly served with the Royal Canadian Air Force for 25 years as a
fighter controller, and a navigator with fighter interceptor
squadrons. In 1972, while serving at RCAF Base Namao’s
Rescue Coordination Centre, he oversaw what remains the
costliest search and rescue operation in Canadian
aviation history. Near the end of his career he moved his
family to the Annapolis Valley, where he had met and married his first
wife Helen many years before. After retirement, with
Helen’s help, he turned his passion into becoming the owner
of an antique restoration and woodworking shop in Kentville, and later
Centreville, selling antiques and restoring or building furniture.
He has left many cherished heirlooms for family and friends
to enjoy for many years to come. He is survived by his
children, Garth (Jill) Moore, Bob (Liz) Moore and Joan (George
Emberley) Golden; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Helen (Eye) Moore;
second wife, Julita Moore; two brothers, Lloyd, John and sister Wilma
Verdonk. An avid curler, bowler and lifelong gardener he
always provided summer visitors and neighbors with an abundance of
bounty. He also organized indoor curling activities while at
Kings Riverside Court and was always game to play billiards or listen
to jazz. Gordon’s family would like to extend
their sincere thanks and appreciation to the staff at Kings Riverside
Court, as well as his other caregivers, for their care, support,
kindness and compassion during Julita’s and
Gordon’s time there, and to the staff at Valley Regional
Hospital and Camp Hill 3 West for their care during his final
days. Cremation has taken
place. There will be no visitation or funeral service, by
request. Donations in memory may be made to the Alzheimer Society.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral
Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
