GLENDA SHARON HEANEY
March 29, 1958 – July 9, 2020
It is with profound heartbreak that we the family announce the passing of Glenda Sharon Heaney at Dr. G.B. Cross Memorial Hospital in Clarenville, NL, on July 9, 2020 at the age of 62, after an awe-inspiring and courageous 8-year journey wrestling with cancer. She died peacefully, surrounded by her family, and was predeceased by her parents, Allister Smith and Olive Eddy Smith, as well as her niece Carrie Smith.
Left with loving, warm, and goofy memories are her husband of forty years, Oscar; beloved daughter, Olivia; cherished son-in-law, Ryan Belbin; only sister, Dena Dobbin; special nieces Tara (Luke Vokey) Dobbin and Allie Dobbin; brothers Jerry Smith, Andy (Ruth) Smith, and Carl (Debbie) Smith; siblings-in-law Brenda (Kent) Haley, Sandra (Bill) Sheppard, Lucille (Blaine) Vey, Barry (Shari MacDonald) Heaney, Ervin Heaney, Scott (Ariel Shubinsky) Heaney; best friend and neighbour Tish Brown; as well as many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Glenda was raised in Swift Current, and spent 40 years living in Mount Pearl. After a long career as a small business owner, she divided her time in retirement between Port Blandford and Arnold’s Cove. When Glenda did anything just for herself (which was rare because she generously spent her copious energy taking care of her family) she enjoyed tending her beautiful gardens in Mount Pearl and Port Blandford, snuggling with her treasured dog, Maudie, and — as those who love her most will remember — doing things just for badness.
Cremation has taken place and there will be a funeral and celebration of life announced at a later date when large groups of friends and family are allowed to gather (and sing hymns together!) again.
Special thank yous to the palliative care staff at G.B. Cross, as well as to Drs. Christopher Cox, Crispin Russell, and Jonathan Greenland for compassionate and outstanding surgical and cancer care over the years.
Given Glenda’s love for flowers, they are gratefully accepted as expressions of sympathy; or, even better, we encourage you to plant something in her memory.

Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Glenda Sharon Heaney
