Date: December 6th, 2020
Gladys was born near Youngstown, Alberta July 27, 1920 to Abe and Alma Snider Reist. After several years at High River they moved to Carstairs where her dad pastored at West Zion Church while their pastor was away. They lived and worked at several places near there in the following years. She passed away December 6, 2020 – 100 years and 4 months – at the Tofield Hospital.
At 12 ½ she started working for families who needed help with children and house. She went to several different schools. Gladys accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior in her youth and enjoyed helping with Women’s Sewing Circle and teaching Sunday School. She attended Winter Bible School at several Alberta churches including Tofield. In 1943 she moved to Tofield to work for David Stutzman’s and some others. While there she started going with Harry Stauffer (** her wording) and they were married March 16, 1944.
She enjoyed gardening, especially flowers and the outdoors. She helped with the farm work, hauling hay bales, milking cows and feeding chickens. Even with a broken leg she used the 4-wheeler to get things from the garden. She also was seen mowing the lawn with her leg in the cast, on the riding lawn mower of course.
She was predeceased by her husband Harry, daughter Marlene, one granddaughter and one great grandson.
She leaves a son Bernard (Connie); three daughters Fern (Nathan) Kauffman, Rita (Ken) Seutter and Barb (Dan) Allen; one son-in-law Sam Seutter; one brother Lewis Reist; three sisters Fran Spicer, Bessie (Jim) Earl and Constance Bredin; 19 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Due to the Pandemic restrictions a private family graveside service will take place at Salem Mennonite Church Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to the Tofield and Area Health Foundation Long Term Care Recreation Fund.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Gladys Irene Reist Stauffer 2020..
