Henshilwood, Gladys Helen:
Passed away peacefully on Friday, July 17, 2020 at Sunnyside Home in Kitchener. Born May 9th, 1922 in Willow Bunch, Saskatchewan. Predeceased by her husband, Thomas Lester Henshilwood in December, 1994. Loving mother to James (Jim) Alexander (Shalane Anne), grandmother to James (Jamie) Vincent Henshilwood (Janet Stephenson) and Angela Henshilwood (Michael Logue) and great-grandmother to Finnegan (Finn)James Logue. Great-grandmother to Sally Stephenson (Eric Pigden) and great-great grandmother to Joseph (Joey) Daniel Pigden.
She came from a large family and is predeceased by beloved siblings Lily, Alexander, Dot, and Olive, and many cousins, including Lilian, Jean, Beth, and John.
Special Aunt to Deb Lowry (Steve), Donna Sundstrom (Vern), Doris Kornfeld, Ken Henshilwood (Margaret), Ken Davis, Marlene (Jon) and loving aunt to numerous other nieces and nephews and friend to many in Napanee, Renfrew, Kingston, Gananoque, Christina Lake, Grand Forks, and Kelowna.
Gladys was a faithful member of The United Church and proud member and Past Worthy Matron of Eastern Star for more than 70 years. She participated with the United Church Women’s (UCW) group and volunteered her time in numerous ways, including at the Christina Lake Community Centre and Hospital Auxiliary.
Active all her life, she loved playing sports, many of them with Tommy, including golf (which she was still playing into her 90’s), lawn bowling, curling, fishing and she also loved watching baseball, hockey, football, basketball, and curling on television. Some of her other talents included knitting, crocheting, cooking and her baking was sought after by family and friends. She spent many enjoyable hours playing euchre, bridge, crib, and other games with loved ones. Gladys enjoyed travelling, including numerous trips to Scotland, many parts of Canada including the Yukon, a cruise, yearly trips to Reno and even a once-in-a-lifetime visit to Australia in her 80s.
Special thanks to the staff at Briarfield Gardens and Sunnyside Home for their compassionate care.
Private cremation has taken place and a private family interment will take place at Napanee Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick Street, Kitchener, 519-749-8467.
