Gladys died peacefully in her 92 year at the Pembroke Regional Hospital (PRH), on March 29, 2020. Although, some might say she was old, she was still full of life, her mind was sharp, and she was looking forward to the coming of spring with new hopes and dreams. Her family appreciates the professionalism, care and compassion shown by the health-care team at PRH to both Gladys and her family.
She had moved to Kanata from Edmonton in 2015 to be closer to her family. Her husband Stephen died the following year, just short of their 70th wedding anniversary. Gladys was independent and lived on her own until moving to Supples Landing Retirement Home in Pembroke in 2019 November. While being there only 4 months, she was happy and enjoyed her life there, and appreciated the support provided by the staff and the companionship of the residents.
Her memory will be cherished by her son Peter Boczar (“The Piano Man”, Judy), Petawawa, grandchild Dr. Kevin Boczar (Dr. Kathryn Bezzina) and great grandchild Beatrice Eliza Boczar, Ottawa; daughter Pat van Geleuken (Pete), Lucan ON; grandchild Tanya Petersen (Mike) and great grandchildren Alex and Ben,Mount Brydges, ON. Of her siblings (William, Bertram, Lucy, Stanley, Gordon, Grace and Shirley) only Shirley Helgason of Washington State, USA remains.
A Grave-side Liturgy will be held in St. Columba’s Cemetery, Pembroke and will be announced at a later date.
Instead of flowers a donation to the Pembroke Regional Hospital Foundation would be appreciated. Arrangements are in care of the MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, Pembroke. Condolences, tributes, donations www.murphyfuneralhome.ca.
