Giuseppe Joe Bossio 2020

Obituary for
Giuseppe (Joe) Bossio
On March 15, 2020, our wonderful husband, father, nonno and dear friend Giuseppe (Joe) Bossio passed away peacefully at home in the arms of his beloved wife.
Joe is survived by his wife of 55 years, Rosetta; his daughter, Emi (Rich) Bell; grandchildren, Lauren and David; sister-in-law, Toni Driutti of Trail, BC, brothers-in law, Joe Guercio of Trail, BC, and Jack (Linda) Guercio of Edmonton; and numerous nieces and nephews including his sister’s children, Concettina (Franco) Cuzzetto and Gaetano (Maria) Filice of Italy; and his brother’s daughters, who were like daughters to him, Erminia (Tadesse) Taye of Toronto, Rosi (Darrell) Babyn and Jenny (Giulio) Arlia of Edmonton. He held each and every one of his family and friends near to his heart and loved them dearly.
Born in Grimaldi, Italy in 1933, Joe came to Canada in 1954 to join his cherished sisters-in-law and brothers, Frank (Eleonora) and Mike (Gemma). Though he always dearly loved his homeland, he quickly became a proud and dedicated Canadian who loved hockey and football. He volunteered, belonged and supported many clubs in the Italian community. He never missed a dinner dance or New Year’s Eve celebrations and enjoyed playing bocce at the Italian Cultural Centre. He loved to travel and garden. The best vacations were with the family at sunny beaches and in the words of his grandson he had “two green thumbs”.
He lived his life as a true example to everyone. He always showed tremendous respect, kindness and generosity to others. He placed little value on material things; instead, his greatest source of happiness was his family and friends.
He will be remembered always as a wonderful, kind, generous and loving man with a great sense of humour. He made his friends and family feel special by the genuine love and affection he showed to them all. He will live on in the sparkle of the eyes of his beloved grandchildren.
Sadly, at this time, coronavirus precautions prevent us from gathering together with all of Joe’s numerous friends and family. As a result, his family will hold a private funeral. There will be a further Mass and Celebration of Joe’s Life as soon as circumstances permit.
In lieu of flowers or food, as an expression of sympathy, the family respectfully requests that donations be made in Joe’s name to Catholic Social Services, 12431 Stony Plain Road, Edmonton, AB T5N 3N3.
