Obituary of Gertrude “Trudy” Lisette Rahm
Trudy Rahm, beloved wife of the Late Frederick Rahm of Calgary, passed away on Monday, December 7, 2020 at the age of 100 years.
She was born in Freiburg and raised there in the area of the Black Forest Germany.
She was an only child who loved to ride horses and enjoyed the outdoors. She worked as a nanny in England for a year. Trudy returned home to run a movie theater in conjunction with her parents’ butcher shop and Gasthaus.
She met Fred who was an Austrian during the war, but he was captured and detained in an American POW camp. When he was released, he immigrated to Canada as he had two aunts here. Trudy was able to join him and they were married in Calgary in 1960. Sadly they did not have any children. They were very active supporters of the Calgary Austrian Canadian Club and enjoyed dancing there weekly.
They also loved to travel around the world especially with the Princess Cruise Lines (over 25 trips). She loved to garden and to cook. Trudy was a consummate hostess entertaining many friends and guests. She was a devout Catholic and attended services as long as she was able to be mobile. She was a very loyal friend.
She will be sadly missed by friends and relatives both in Canada and Germany.
A Celebration of Life will be held when conditions permit.
